Abstract
The urgency of foreign policy analysis for developing countries is that there is no eternal enemy, only eternal interests. For this reason, developing countries need backup from big countries in order to be able to fulfill their national interests. Through FPA students are able to understand Iran's strength in energy security and also the strength in the Strait of Hormuz.
Description
Islamic Republic of Iran has been following a foreign policy composed of realist and ideological elements. Foreign policy of Islamic Republic of Iran has been determined by ideological ideals of Islamic revolution and realist necessities of Iran, in other word, national interests. Domestic politics of Islamic regime has important role in foreign policy choices of Iran. Regime’s foreign policy may likely to change accordingly new elected president since different political factions within the Islamic Republic have different world vision or different methods in foreign policy implementation. Khomeini’s foreign policy based on combination of revolutionary ideology and realism. Foreign policy of post-Khomeini presidents shows foreign policy difference of political factions. Rafsanjani was pragmatist and sought to normalize relations with the US. Reformist president Khatami tried to integrate Iran to international system.
